YOLANDA’S POLICY PRIORITIES

Yolanda’s experience and commitment to our communities are why we trust her to represent us in Santa Fe. Her priorities focus on responding to federal cuts under the Trump administration while advancing a forward-looking vision for children and families—especially in our rural communities and small towns.

Her priorities are:

Affordability

  • Fight for affordable housing, good-paying jobs, and lower everyday costs for working families.

  • Expand opportunities for families to build savings and assets, including homeownership, by increasing state investment in rural workforce housing.

Education

  • Sustain rural schools, support teacher recruitment and housing, and ensure small schools have the resources they need.

  • Creating pipeline for students to go to college or trade school (partnership with Northern) .

Healthcare and Mental/Behavioral Health

  • Affordable, accessible healthcare at every stage of life

  • Protect Medicaid, lower costs, expand providers, and strengthen mental health and suicide prevention services

Rural Economic Development, Jobs, and Infrastructure

  • Support small businesses, expand broadband, create good jobs, secure disaster recovery funding, bring more state investment to the district , strengthen partnerships with the labs, and work with surrounding pueblos.

Water and Environment

  • Protect our acequias, watersheds, and drinking water while investing in rural water infrastructure

  • Safeguard natural resources and preserve traditional and agricultural water uses

  • Continue Rep. Susan Herrera’s work supporting Mutual Domestic Water Associations

  • Support the Rio Chama aquifer-mapping project to protect long-term water resources

  • Advance modern, science-based water planning
